Praying for all those that are mourning

Isaiah 61:1-3

King James Version (KJV)

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

About twenty one years ago, I lost my younger sister. It was sudden and tragic. The pain was much, the wound was very ghastly. My heart bled for the loss of a sister, confidante and friend. I thought I would never be able to laugh again. In fact, I lost hope in everything. Then, memories of good times we spent together began to unfold like a fresh lotus. Her wonderful, kind and gentle spirit, her philosophy of living in the moment and the way she lived a life of giving in cash and kind. This was the beginning of the healing process which turned things around for me.

Looking back in retrospect, I now relate my pain to what millions of people who have lost sons, daughters, husbands, wives, friends and colleagues in various disasters are experiencing. The tsunami in Japan, September 11th in New York and Katrina in New Orleans, the Haiti catastrophe and such others are few examples of how mankind’s time table on earth can change within a second. How do we survive the agony of losing loved ones including pets? The antidote is found in reminiscing on sweet memories, appreciating and bonding with each other whilst we are still here and breathing.

Sweet memories are precious, they are indelible! Jesus Christ, the Messiah went through the agony of death. He was beaten, stricken and nailed to the cross; yet today, the sting of death has lost its power through great memories of his fantastic ministry on earth. Today, the world at large continues to celebrate his life over and above his death. May every soul that hurts receive healing and comfort as we hold on to sweet memories of our loved ones.

Prayer points:

1 Pray for the earth that is mourning the unprecedented loss of it’s inhabitants. The blood of the slain is crying for the Lord’s vengeance.
2 Pray for widows and orphans who are hurting and have become bitter against God. They are yet to find an answer to many questions.
3 Pray for closure to all painful memories and anguish; that the blood of the Lamb of God will soothe and heal every wound.
4 Pray that the sweet memories of our Lord Jesus Christ will be the blue print guiding all those that mourn to enter into that perfect peace of God.
5 Pray for the salvation of your family and loved ones, so that there will be a revelation of the victory, we already have over death through the risen son of God.
6 Pray that you will celebrate your loved ones whilst they are still here with you. Send roses, call, text, visit and be supportive.
7 Pray that you will live in the moment and celebrate the goodness of God, daily.
8 Bless the Lord for daily benefits and protection.
9 Pray that the Lord will take away the garment of heaviness and replace it with that of praise, oil of joy shall break the yoke of mourning and the beauty of our God will encompass His own people and make ever speck of ash disappear.
10 May this be a turning point in someone’s life; despair to hope, sadness to joy and weakness to strength. Shalom!
