“Food” for Thought: Olive Oil

Olive Oil: The Olive tree originated from Asia but has been cultivated for over 3000 years in the Mediterranean region of the world where much of the crop is used to make olive oil. One table spoon of olive oil contains 120calories and 14grams of fat. The fat however is mostly mono-unsaturated and has beneficial effects on blood cholesterol levels. Regular intake of olive oil also reduces incidents of cardiovascular diseases. Olive oil is easily digested and its mild vegetable mucilage protects the digestive tract. It is a good remedy for skin problems and an effective moisturizer.
